Retinal Detachment

The retina of the human eye is one of the main parts of the organ of vision, the condition of which is important to have good vision.

The retina is part of the optical system of the eye, lining the inside of the eyeball, receiving light and converting it into nerve impulses that are transmitted to the brain.

Retinal detachment brings to disruption of the nutrition of the outer layers, leading to their death and rapid loss of vision.

In case of detachment associated with a rupture and diagnosed at an early stage, laser coagulation seals the problem area quickly and easily. As the pathological process progresses, vitreous fluid enters the interlayer space, the cells do not receive nutrition, and death occurs.

In this case, the only possible treatment for retinal detachment is surgical intervention as soon as possible!

Symptoms of retinal detachment:

1. Rapid decrease in visual acuity

2. When a retinal vessel ruptures, complaints of flashing “spots” and black dots appear

3. When a detachment occurs, a veil, a shadow, a veil appears, obscuring part of the visual field in the diseased eye, spreading to the entire retina.

4. Vibrations and distortions in the shape of noticeable objects are observed

Retinal detachment. Methods of surgery:

1. Extrascleral ballooning (filling) - the operation is performed on the surface of the sclera

2. Vitrectomy is a modern method of removing the vitreous with a short-term introduction of artificial substances (silicone oil or gas) into the eye cavity to ensure adherence of the detached retinal fragment.

3. The use of laser coagulation after surgery that limits the rupture of the damaged area.

For patients after surgical treatment, observation by an ophthalmologist, limitation of physical activity, and a gentle visual regimen are indicated for 1 month.
